When I came to the United States first, I was in Texas. I studied electrical engineering for one year because I thought it was the most promising major in the future, but I did not have any purpose and passion to study electrical engineering. I realized it was not for me. During summer break, I spent time thinking about myself and the future seriously with my parents. And then I started to find what I love and what I really want to be in the future. The answer was drawing. It was the only thing I enjoyed and loved since youth. I researched graphic design and found UCO. And, I moved to Oklahoma from Texas to learn graphic design at UCO because I had a passion to learn graphic design.
Choosing graphic design as my major was challenging. New city, new language, new culture, and everything was new. Despite everything being unfamiliar to me, I made efforts on every project in each semester. The language was the most difficult part for me. Communicating my thought in English was difficult. It was different from learning electrical engineering. I had something to say in my mind, but I did not know the words. So, I started to observe professors and other and learned how they communicate design and critique others' works. I feel I have developed since the first semester.
I believe design is the best way to communicate my thoughts with other people even though I have a different language. I believe the design is only the thing I love to do. It is the first thing that I had a passion to do myself in my life. Design has a strong strength to express myself. I hope to convey clear messages and get people to feel various emotions, such as happiness, joy, comfort, and impression through my drawings. I want to be a graphic designer who communicates a warm and positive message to people
I grew up in Korea and came to America to experience and learn design. I already took four semesters as a graphic design student at UCO. I appreciate that I can get a precious opportunity to learn design in another country. Every project looked like difficult quests. I always did my best to make the best things I could in every class. I learned how to be a creative designer and know many Adobe program skills now. I am happy and excited to learn at UCO Design Program. I always cannot make the best results, but I love the process I made for every project. I am satisfied and accomplished when I finish the project. I love everything I made at UCO. I want to keep going to journey as a graphic designer.
